CPD Call Progress Detection. An optional Avaya MPS shared resource

that monitors a phone line for activity tones, such as ring, busy, dial,

etc., that indicate the particular state of that line.

Applications may also use CPD functions during call referral and

other activities that require line state identification during a call.

To use CPD, at least one optional hardware module must be installed

in the system. The type of module to use depends on whether the

system is analog (MPS 7XXX) or digital (MPS 9XXX). For analog

systems, the module fits in a dedicated board slot on the VPLC-2000.

For digital systems the module is installed as a separate DSP board.

CPS The Call Processing Subsystem is the physical interface to the

telephone network. It includes the telephone line/resource cards, and

associated hardware consisting of intelligent speech, telephone, and

data communications components.
