silence detection A system feature that allows an application to terminate a CMR
message recording based on a silence interval. When the interval
expires, recording terminates and the MS token is returned.
Silence detection also allows an application to strip intermediate
silence greater than a specified value.
Use smp silthresh to set the energy level considered to be
silence.
For additional information, see the Avaya MPS System Configuration
Reference Manual.

SMP Speech Management Process. The VOS software process
responsible for many of the speech recording and playback functions
in the Avaya MPS system. SMP provides the run-time services
required for application programs to playback and record messages
and prompts.
SMP synchronizes the line speak/record events and prepares speech
resources for the system. This includes activating MultiMedia files
(MMFs) for speaking and recording. SMP also keeps speech/
recording-related statistics.
For additional information, see the Avaya MPS System Configuration
Reference Manual.
