Conﬁguring Initial Interfaces and Netboot Operation

You can use the ifconﬁg command to do the following:

• Conﬁgure the router’s initial IP interface to the network. You also use the

same procedure to conﬁgure other synchronous interfaces for the network

booting procedure.

• Conﬁgure Ethernet interfaces for the network booting procedure.

• Enable or disable network booting on an interface.

The following sections describe each use of the

ifconﬁg command.

Conﬁguring the Initial IP Synchronous Interface

To netboot the router, you must ﬁrst conﬁgure the router’s initial IP synchronous

interface to the network, using the following interface conﬁguration command:

ifconﬁg [-s

<slot_no.>

]

<synchronous_options>

[

<IP_address>

<subnet_mask>

[

<next_hop_address>

]]

<synchronous_options> indicates some combination of the following settings:

[-d | -fr [-annexd | -lmi | -annexa ] | -int_clk]

You can use the same command format to conﬁgure other synchronous interfaces

on the router for network booting.

Table 8-2 describes the

ifconﬁg command arguments for conﬁguring a router’s

synchronous interface.

Note: You must insert a space to separate each command option from the next.
