Configuring SNMP, RMON, BOOTP, DHCP, and RARP Services

The Technician Interface allows you to modify parameters by issuing
set
and
commit
commands with the management information base (MIB) object ID. This
process is equivalent to modifying parameters using Site Manager.
For more information about using the Technician Interface to access the MIB,
refer to
Using Technician Interface Software.
Starting SNMP Services
Before you can use SNMP, you must enable IP services. When you enable IP
services, you are required to configure only a few parameters; the system supplies
default values for the remaining parameters.
You can accept the default values or edit IP global parameters to customize IP. For
information about editing IP global parameters, refer to
Configuring IP Services
.
Enabling IP on an Interface
IP runs on all slots that contain IP interfaces. When you add an IP interface to a
circuit, Site Manager enables IP on the slot. When you set IP global parameters,
you are affecting the way IP operates on all slots where it is configured.
To enable IP services on an interface:
1. In the Configuration Manager window, select the link- or net-module
connector on which you are enabling IP services, or configure a WAN
circuit if this connector requires one.
The Select Protocols window opens.
2. Select IP from the Select Protocols window and click on OK.
The IP Configuration window opens.
Caution: We strongly recommend that you use the Technician Interface for
minor MIB adjustments only. The Technician Interface does not validate
parameter entries. Entering an invalid value can corrupt your configuration.
Note: The Select Protocols window displays only those protocols that the
circuit type supports.
