record

The record command saves to an open ﬁle all messages written to the console

terminal. Use this command when you need to capture a snapshot of Technician

Interface output for analysis by Bay Networks Technical Response Center

personnel.

You must open a snapshot ﬁle before attempting to capture any Technician

Interface output to that ﬁle.

You must close the ﬁle

• After capturing the desired output from the Technician Interface

• Before unmounting the router ﬁle system

• Before resetting the router

If you do not follow these instructions, you can lose the contents of your snapshot

ﬁle.

Enter the following command to open a ﬁle, and to save console messages to that

ﬁle:

record open [-ﬁleonly] [-pause]

<vol>

<ﬁlename>

open creates and opens a snapshot ﬁle. The system sends command output and

messages to both the console terminal and the ﬁle.

-ﬁleonly writes messages only to the ﬁle, not to the terminal. This option is used

only within a script, and is otherwise ignored. This option allows a script to write

output to a ﬁle. The default is for messages to be written to both the ﬁle and the

terminal.

-pause immediately places the system in pause mode. You can use this option

with the

-ﬁleonly option.

<vol>

is the slot number containing the volume used to store the ﬁle.

<ﬁlename>

is the name of the ﬁle used to store output from the router’s Technician

Interface.
