For more information about configuring DCM-enabled RMON, see Chapter 2,
“Starting RMON and RMON2 on AN/ANH and ARN Routers.” For information
about configuring mini-RMON on an ARN 100 or a BN router, see Chapter 3,
“Configuring Mini-RMON on ARN 100 and BN Routers.”
RMON and RMON2 Architecture
The Nortel Networks RMON and RMON2 architecture consists of the following
components:
• AN/ANH and ARN base modules and ARN Ethernet expansion modules,
which reside on the router
• DCM, which physically attaches to the router’s base module and contains its
own flash memory module
• DCM agent software, which operates on the Ethernet DCM
• Data collection module middleware (DCMMW), which operates on the
router’s base module
• RMON agent software, which operates on the router’s base module
• Network management software, which resides on an RMON network
management station
The RMON network management station sends SNMP
set
and
get
commands
requesting information from the DCM agent that resides on the Ethernet DCM on
the router. The RMON agent sends the requested information to the network
management station, which then processes and displays this information on its
console.
Figure 1-3
illustrates the components of this architecture. The sections that follow
describe them in more detail.
