Protocol Distribution Group
The Protocol Distribution group collects the relative numbers of octets and
packets for the different protocols detected on a network segment. An RMON
application can use this table to quickly determine bandwidth allocation used by
different protocols. An entry is made in the table for every protocol in the Protocol
Directory table that has been seen in at least one packet. Counters are updated in
this table for every protocol type that is encountered when parsing a packet, but no
counters are updated for packets with MAC-layer errors.
Figure B-2
shows the statistics collected for the Protocol Distribution group using
the Optivity Analysis for Windows NT application.
